Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has voiced strong criticism regarding the state of insecurity and food shortages currently affecting the nation under the current administration. Speaking at a funeral service in Ebonyi State, Obi asserted that President Bola Tinubu has failed to address these critical national challenges.
Addressing a large gathering at Isiama Primary School in Onicha Local Government Area, Obi urged citizens to protect their ballots in 2027 to ensure the election of leaders capable of addressing the country’s economic and security crises. He emphasized that the current economic strain is a shared struggle impacting all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation. He stated that the time has come for citizens to demand better governance.
Regarding the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Obi argued that the focus should be on the power of the electorate. He believes that if citizens firmly demand that their votes matter, the institution will be compelled to reflect that reality. He highlighted rising poverty figures, noting that economic hardship has surged significantly since the current government took office.
The event served as a tribute to the late Okaji Simon Okorie Abaa, father of the NDC Senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South, Hon. Linus Okorie. Obi expressed his condolences, describing the late Okorie as a personal friend and a long-time political associate while praying for comfort for the bereaved family.
