Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has stated that he was recently prevented from visiting three different states by their respective governors. During an interview with Sun, Obi addressed concerns regarding threats to his personal safety but declined to identify the specific states involved.
The candidate argues that these officials are infringing upon his fundamental right to freedom of movement due to his political aspirations. Obi questioned the legality of such actions, asking why anyone should be barred from entering a state. He further explained that he had been warned his life would be at risk if he attempted to enter those locations.
This situation follows a previous warning issued in July 2025 by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, who instructed the former Anambra State governor to obtain security clearance before entering his state. Obi has repeatedly expressed in recent public discussions that individuals in power are actively working to obstruct his political activities.
