Authorities in Oyo State have taken four individuals into custody following accusations that they vandalized and stole solar power hardware from a telecommunications site in Kwara State. The arrests occurred on June 20, 2026, when officers from the Command Monitoring Unit performed a standard inspection near the Irepo section of the Oyo–Ogbomoso Expressway.
The suspects were caught inside an ash-colored Toyota Sienna, bearing the license plate EPE 992 KH, while hauling the pilfered components. Identified as 35-year-old Jimoh Mufutau, 34-year-old Saheed Akanbi, 37-year-old Lateef Ibrahim, and 38-year-old Lukman Jimoh, the group originated from various parts of Ogun and Lagos states. Initial findings suggest the four hybrid solar batteries seized are worth roughly ₦8 million.
During questioning, the men admitted to stripping the gear from a facility located in Offa, Kwara State, and were in the process of moving the loot to a secret location. Law enforcement has seized both the batteries and the vehicle as evidence. Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga lauded his officers for their alertness and dedication to shielding essential public infrastructure. He called on the public to maintain support for police efforts, ensuring that criminal syndicates are dismantled and brought before the law.
