Tensions are rising in the Oyo State branch of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as disgruntled members have formally requested the national headquarters to investigate state chairperson Mrs. Oyeronke Akinlolu. The petition, submitted on July 20, 2026, to National Chairman Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, alleges that Akinlolu is guilty of abusing her office, disregarding internal democratic norms, and engaging in activities detrimental to the party.
Led by Engr. Oshiariyo Stephen Adeyinka, the petitioners claim that Akinlolu’s leadership has alienated the rank and file, fostered division, and compromised the party’s future in the state. Among the specific grievances, members allege she frequently makes decisions unilaterally, bypassing the State Executive Committee and stifling open debate. They cited the sudden removal of over 50 members from the official party WhatsApp group as a prime example of her intimidation tactics.
Furthermore, the group accused the chairperson of hostility toward presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, while also illegally replacing executive members without adherence to party statutes. The petitioners are calling for an independent inquiry into these matters and have asked the national leadership to reinstate ousted members and review controversial appointments made under Akinlolu’s tenure. As of the latest update, neither Mrs. Akinlolu nor the Oyo State chapter has issued a response to these claims.
