The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially dismissed claims that its Osun State branch has merged with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support gubernatorial candidate Bola Oyebamiji for the upcoming August 15 election. Reports previously circulated that a factional leader, Remi Omidire, had sent a letter to the APC chairman declaring his support for Oyebamiji.
However, Femi Olaniyi, the chairman of the SDP State Chairmen in Nigeria, clarified that the Osun party structure is still under the leadership of Funsho Fabiyi and remains fully independent. He explicitly stated that the letter from Omidire is fraudulent and not an official communication from the party.
Olaniyi condemned the report as a deceptive tactic by those attempting to confuse voters. He emphasized that the SDP has not formed any alliances with the APC and intends to participate in the election independently. He further warned that those spreading such misinformation could face legal action, urging party supporters to ignore the rumors and focus on the ongoing campaign.
