Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has publicly accused Gboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, of orchestrating a campaign of violence and harassment against Accord Party supporters leading up to the August 15, 2026, governorship election. In a statement shared on X, the governor highlighted a pattern of instability, including the freezing of state accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Adeleke claims that over 60 members of the Accord Party have been apprehended and relocated to Abuja, where they are currently being held without formal charges. The governor describes these police raids as unjustified and unlawful. He maintains that these actions are politically calculated moves by his predecessor, Oyetola, intended to destabilize his campaign for the upcoming vote.
The governor cautioned that such actions represent a grave danger to Nigeria’s democratic foundations and the integrity of the rule of law. He criticized the use of federal institutions to bypass constitutional rights. Despite the pressure, Governor Adeleke stated that his party remains committed to its election campaign efforts.
