Osun APC Pulls Out of Saturday’s Local Government Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has officially withdrawn from the local government elections set for February 22, 2025.

In a letter to the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), signed by its Secretary, Alao Olabisi Kamoru, the party cited a recent Appeal Court ruling in Akure as the reason for its decision.

According to the APC, the judgment in Appeal No. CA/AK/270/2022 reinstated previously elected local government officials, rendering the elections unnecessary and unlawful. The party argued that the ruling overturned an earlier Federal High Court judgment (Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/94/2022), which had initially created the vacancies in local councils.

Despite conducting extensive campaigns across the state’s 30 local government areas, the APC concluded that the elections were no longer relevant and, therefore, chose to withdraw, describing the process as unnecessary and unlawful.
