Armed bandits have abducted Usman Daina, the Council Secretary of Munya Local Government Area in Niger State, along with his wife, two children, and a female neighbor.

The attack occurred at his residence in Sarkin-Pawa, the headquarters of Munya LGA.

Sources revealed that the assailants, numbering in large groups, stormed the town around 10 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025, firing gunshots indiscriminately before proceeding to Daina’s home. Before taking the victims, the bandits reportedly killed his dog.

One person was killed while trying to escape during the attack.

“It is a sad news. Bandits in large numbers invaded Sarkin-Pawa, kidnapped the council secretary, his wife, and two children. They came at about 9:30pm,” one of the sources said.

The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident. However, he stated that the Council Secretary had been released, while efforts were ongoing to rescue the remaining victims.

“He was abducted yesterday around 10pm, and he was released early this morning around 3am. Efforts to rescue others in progress,” the PPRO said.
