A 45-year-old Nigerian resident, Obinwa Obichukwu, has been given a two-year jail sentence for sexually assaulting a woman at Euston station in London. A jury at the Inner London Crown Court convicted him of two counts of sexual assault this past January.
During the trial, evidence revealed that on August 20, 2023, Obichukwu approached a woman walking to the station. He questioned her about her music before putting his arm around her and asking her to accompany him to his home. Despite her efforts to walk away, he persisted by holding her hand and making unwanted declarations of love. Upon reaching the station, he blocked her path and physically assaulted her. Even as she attempted to flee toward the Underground platforms, he pursued her and committed a second assault near the ticket barriers before she was finally able to push him away.
British Transport Police utilized CCTV footage to support the Crown Prosecution Service in bringing charges. While Obichukwu claimed the interaction was mutual, the jury rejected his defense. Beyond his prison sentence, he is subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must register as a sex offender for the same period.
