‘Not About Ceasefire’ – Trump Snubs Macron Following Early G7 Departure
U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly rebuked French President Emmanuel Macron following his early departure from the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Canada—rejecting Macron’s claim that the exit was tied to ceasefire efforts between Israel and Iran.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday, June 16, Trump dismissed the French leader’s statement as false and accused him of seeking attention.
“Publicity-seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to DC to work on a ‘ceasefire’ between Israel and Iran. Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay tuned!” Trump wrote.
Macron, addressing reporters earlier at the summit, told the press that Trump was spearheading efforts for a ceasefire between the two Middle Eastern adversaries.
“There is an offer that has been made, especially to have a ceasefire and to initiate broader discussions,” Macron stated. “If the United States of America can achieve a ceasefire, it is a very good thing and France will support it and we wish for it.”
Trump, however, flatly denied that his departure was related to the Israel-Iran conflict, offering no details but hinting at a more significant development on the horizon.
The U.S. president left the summit a day early, flying out from the Canadian Rockies as Israel and Iran entered a fifth consecutive day of missile exchanges, raising fears of a broader regional war.
Before departing, Trump issued a stern warning, urging residents to evacuate Tehran—an indication of the escalating tension and Washington’s deepening involvement in the crisis.
The disagreement highlights ongoing friction between Trump and Macron, who have clashed in the past on issues ranging from NATO funding to climate policy and global diplomacy. As international concern grows over the Israel-Iran conflict, speculation is mounting over what Trump’s “much bigger” move might entail.
No further clarification was provided by the White House at the time of this report.
