The Northern Christian Religious Leaders Assembly (NOCRELA) has requested that the Nigerian Federal Government designate Senior Special Assistants for both Christian and Muslim affairs. Rev. Simon Dolly-Kif, the group’s Secretary-General, stated in Abuja that this move would encourage national unity and strengthen trust between the government and the public.
According to Dolly-Kif, these positions are a practical requirement rather than a political formality. Given current issues like insecurity and financial strain, faith-based organizations are often the primary support systems for citizens in regions where government services are limited. By utilizing the influence of religious leaders through official channels, the government can effectively communicate with underserved communities.
The proposed advisers would be tasked with mediating local conflicts, promoting interfaith tolerance, and advising the President on policies that affect citizens socially and religiously. Furthermore, they would help organize support for initiatives focused on education, public health, and poverty reduction. Dolly-Kif concluded that integrating the moral guidance of religious institutions is an essential step toward achieving national stability and long-term development.
