A fatal crash near Ayetoro on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Monday resulted in nine deaths and left three others injured.
The accident, which reportedly occurred around 5:30 a.m., involved a Toyota bus with the number plate UYY165ZY and a truck with the registration number DKA244XC.
The bus driver was said to have lost control and collided with the stationary truck.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in a statement sent to journalists on Monday.
Okpe explained, “The fatal crash occurred in the early hours this morning about 0530HRS on Lagos-Ibadan expressway around Ayetoro area.
“A total of 13 people were involved which comprised of 10 male adults and 3 female adults and 09 were recorded killed (6 male and 3 female) while 3 were injured.
“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed and fatigue which led to loss of control and the driver rammed into a station truck.
“The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the deceased were deposited at Idera morgue Sagamu.”
Meanwhile, the Sector Commander expressed deep concern over the recklessness of some drivers who fail to observe the stipulated speed limits and refuse to comply with the mandatory 15-minute rest after every four hours of driving.
He extended his sympathies to the families of the crash victims and urged them to contact the Mowe Unit Command for further information about the incident.
