In an ongoing effort to curb oil theft, the Nigerian Navy has destroyed two illicit refining sites and confiscated 85,300 litres of suspected stolen crude oil. This action was executed as part of the broader Operation Delta Sentinel initiative aimed at disrupting criminal refining activities across Rivers State.
Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Navy’s Director of Information, reported that the mission focused on the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni region. Personnel uncovered the hidden fuel stored within reservoirs and dugouts. These sites were discovered only days after similar infrastructure was neutralized in the same vicinity, highlighting the persistent challenges posed by economic saboteurs attempting to restart illicit production.
The Navy emphasized that its constant patrol presence in these hotspots is essential for preventing criminals from securing a foothold. By relentlessly pressuring these networks, the force aims to secure vital oil and gas infrastructure and protect the nation’s economic stability. The Nigerian Navy continues to prioritize the eradication of illegal refining to safeguard maritime and energy assets.
