Nigerian Air Force Urges Public to Rely on Official Statements Over Rumours

The Nigerian Air Force has appealed to the public to trust official service communications, warning that misinformation undermines national security and aids hostile groups.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is calling on citizens to prioritize official updates over unverified reports, emphasizing that its communications are honest and essential for national security. Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, conveyed this message while meeting with the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) in Abuja.

Ejodame highlighted that misinformation creates public doubt and can hinder military operations, noting that he is personally committed to ensuring every statement released by the service is completely accurate. He shared a personal anecdote about his own father doubting the authenticity of his official remarks, which underscored his dedication to maintaining high standards of transparency. The NAF spokesperson stressed that false reports often benefit terrorist organizations by inciting fear and public distrust.

The NAF official praised members of the press for their diligence and willingness to verify facts before publishing. In turn, DECAN President Sunday Odita lauded the military’s ongoing efforts to curb security threats, such as banditry and kidnapping. The meeting concluded with both groups agreeing to foster closer cooperation to ensure accurate reporting and improve the public’s understanding of defense operations.
