Nigeria Triumphs Over Tanzania in Final WAFCON Prep Match

Esther Okoronkwo’s last-minute goal sealed a 2-1 friendly victory for the Super Falcons against Tanzania as they prepare for the 2026 WAFCON.

The Super Falcons secured a 2-1 victory against Tanzania during a friendly fixture held in Casablanca on Friday evening, courtesy of a late goal from Esther Okoronkwo. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade opened the scoring in the 14th minute, set up by an assist from Rinsola Babajide. Although the team pressed for a second goal before halftime, they were unable to extend their lead.

Following the break, head coach Justine Madugu introduced Folashade Ijamilusi, Uchenna Kanu, Michelle Alozie, and Joy Omewa. They replaced Glory Ogbonna, Toni Payne, Rinsola Babajide, and Asisat Oshoala. Tanzania managed to level the score with 11 minutes remaining in the match. Nevertheless, Okoronkwo struck in the final minute to reclaim the win for Nigeria. The squad is scheduled to depart for Rabat this Friday to compete in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where their title defense begins next Tuesday against Malawi at the Al Madina Stadium.
