The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has finalized its 2024 recruitment process, selecting 3,852 individuals from a pool of 573,680 applicants. Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi confirmed the results during a Tuesday press briefing in Abuja, marking the end of a highly competitive selection cycle.
Of the successful candidates, 1,275 were assigned to the Superintendent cadre, 367 to the Inspectorate cadre, and 2,210 to the Customs Assistant cadre. Adeniyi explained that the process took longer than expected due to the massive volume of applications and internal administrative shifts following several senior-level retirements. Applicants were vetted through rigorous stages, including credential verification against national identity records and computer-based testing.
Addressing those who were not selected, Adeniyi emphasized that the exclusion of hundreds of thousands of qualified candidates was due to limited capacity rather than a lack of merit. To manage expectations and streamline future hiring, the agency will transition to an annual recruitment schedule. This policy aims to ensure a more consistent and transparent approach for prospective applicants.
Regional representation was a priority during the selection, with candidates chosen from every state and the Federal Capital Territory. The agency distributed slots across geopolitical zones to maintain geographical balance, ensuring each state received equitable access to roles within each cadre.
