Nigeria and Germany Deepen Their Defence Ties Through A New Agreement.
Nigeria and Germany have reinforced their commitment to bolstering bilateral defence cooperation by renewing a Memorandum of Understanding with the German Technical Advisory Group. In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Mr. Sunday Iyogu, a Principal Information Officer at the Ministry of Defence, it was announced that the MoU was signed during a ceremony where Gabriel Aduda, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, described it as a strategic counterpart funding arrangement that highlights the strong defence ties between the two nations. Aduda emphasized that the renewed agreement aligns with the shared objectives of Nigeria and Germany, paving the way for long-term security collaboration and developmental initiatives.
He reiterated the Nigerian government’s dedication to accountability and efficient implementation, emphasizing that strict timelines and rigorous monitoring would be prioritized to ensure all commitments are effectively executed.
The permanent secretary assured that every procurement element of the agreement would be rigorously evaluated to ensure value for money.
On his part, the German Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Col. Boris Bovekemp, reaffirmed Germany’s steadfast commitment to boosting cooperation in key sectors, especially in defence, security, and capacity-building initiatives. He praised the long-standing partnership between Nigeria and Germany, emphasizing the need to fortify existing agreements to tackle evolving security challenges. The renewed MoU stands as a further milestone in the Nigeria-Germany defence partnership, reinforcing joint efforts to enhance security, capacity development, and technical cooperation.
