NDLEA Seizes N10.3bn Cannabis Shipment and Apprehends International Drug Suspects

The NDLEA conducted several significant drug busts, seizing over N10.3 billion in cannabis at the Apapa seaport and apprehending suspects trafficking heroin and methamphetamine through Nigerian airports.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully executed multiple operations, resulting in the seizure of cannabis valued at over N10.3 billion at the Apapa seaport, the detention of a South African woman possessing heroin at the Abuja airport, and the arrest of a motorcycle rider who trafficked methamphetamine pellets.

Will Jessica Ann, a 38-year-old South African, was taken into custody at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on July 6, 2026. She was apprehended after arriving on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha, carrying 5.75 kilograms of heroin concealed in her luggage. To evade detection, she traveled with her young son. Investigators believe she is linked to a trafficking network managed by her partner, Jan Coenraad De Jager, based in Cambodia.

Separately, Onyechere Daniel Chinadu, a commercial motorcyclist, was arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport after returning from a failed trip to Madagascar. Following a three-day period under observation, he excreted a total of 100 methamphetamine wraps weighing 1.715 kilograms, which he had ingested in Uganda. His trafficking venture was coordinated by an associate named Ozor Igo.

At the Apapa seaport, a collaborative effort between the NDLEA and the Nigeria Customs Service led to the discovery of 4,143.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud. The shipment, valued at over N10.3 billion, arrived in a container from Montreal, Canada, following extensive intelligence tracking. Additionally, the agency intercepted 2.5 kilograms of skunk hidden inside a gas compressor destined for Cyprus via a courier service.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), lauded the various units involved in these operations. He encouraged the officers to persist in their mission to dismantle drug trafficking networks while maintaining public awareness regarding the dangers of substance abuse.
