NDC Confirms Participation in 2027 General Elections Despite Registration Hurdles

Nigeria Democratic Congress leadership insists its candidates will appear on the 2027 ballot despite a court decision reversing the party’s registration status.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has declared that its representatives will successfully contest in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Ikenna Enekweizu, the National Secretary for the party, provided this update during an appearance on the Channels Television program Politics Today. His comments addressed recent legal challenges regarding the party’s official registration status.

A Federal High Court in Lokoja recently reversed a previous directive that had instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission to grant the NDC registration as a formal political entity. Enekweizu characterized the timing of this judicial shift as a deliberate attempt to obstruct the party from accessing the necessary electoral codes required for candidate submission. Despite these setbacks, he remains confident that the party will secure its credentials and participate in the polls.

Addressing the party’s base, Enekweizu urged supporters to remain calm. He attributed the party’s potential success to widespread public dissatisfaction with current national issues, including food scarcity, systemic insecurity, and government policies. The NDC leadership maintains that they will overcome these obstacles and compete in the electoral process.
