The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has set a 72-hour deadline for the Ogun State Government to rescue students abducted from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade. During a press conference in Abeokuta on Wednesday, NANS Secretary-General Oladimeji Uthman also demanded justice for the death of Sekinat Ahmed, a student at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, who was killed during an Eruku community robbery on July 27.
Uthman stated that the association will initiate statewide protests if these demands are not addressed. He emphasized that the current wave of violence and kidnapping is unacceptable. While he acknowledged the deployment of a police aircraft by Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Inspector-General of Police to assist with surveillance, he urged the state to increase security patrols and establish permanent posts near vulnerable institutions.
In response, the Ogun State Police command confirmed that tactical units and intelligence officers are actively pursuing the kidnappers. Spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi noted that security agencies have launched a coordinated operation to secure the release of the students and arrest the perpetrators.
