The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has expressed support for a bill proposed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) that seeks to outlaw religious preaching and hawking within commercial vehicles. According to Professor Ishaq Akintola, the Executive Director of MURIC, this legislation is a necessary move toward restoring order in public transportation.
Professor Akintola stated that the organization fully backs the bill, which is currently under review at the National Assembly, for two primary reasons. First, he highlighted that preaching sessions inside buses serve as a significant distraction for drivers, which increases the risk of road accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Second, the group argues that such activities are prone to inciting public disorder.
MURIC has urged lawmakers to fast-track the passage of this bill into law. Akintola described the initiative as both visionary and constructive, emphasizing that conducting religious services in transit is an uncivilized practice. The organization hopes that implementing these rules will help address the rising number of traffic incidents across the country.
