Mojtaba Khamenei misses second day of father’s funeral rites

New Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei continues to miss public funeral events for his late father amid safety concerns following a reported injury.

Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, the newly appointed Supreme Leader of Iran, did not attend the second day of state funeral services for his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Tehran. His absence has triggered ongoing uncertainty regarding his current state of health and physical location. While brothers Masoud, Meysam, and Mostafa participated in mass prayers with large crowds on Sunday, Mojtaba remained unseen.

Reports suggest Mojtaba sustained significant injuries during February 28 airstrikes by the US and Israel, an event that also resulted in the deaths of his father, wife, and child. He has not appeared in public since that incident and notably missed a recent memorial service held for his wife. Despite these concerns, The New York Times reports that he is anticipated to preside over the final burial rites in Mashhad this coming Thursday. Security personnel are reportedly restricting his public movements to protect him from potential further attacks during the state proceedings.
