The NSCDC Mining Marshals have submitted a formal petition to Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, requesting that the assembly ignore what they label as deceptive and politically driven claims made by Hon. Abdullahi Danga. The lawmaker, representing the Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency of Kogi State, had previously brought a motion to the House floor questioning the unit’s conduct.
In a document signed by Commander ACC Attah John Onoja, the unit contends that these accusations seek to derail the solid minerals sector reforms championed by Minister Dele Alake. The Marshals argue that these claims, which mirror earlier allegations by CSP Abdulmajeed Abisoye Oyewumi, have already been disproven with public evidence. Furthermore, the unit claims the officer behind the initial accusations faces potential prosecution for aiding foreign nationals involved in illegal mining to escape justice.
Addressing claims of financial mismanagement, the unit clarified that it receives minimal logistical support and has not diverted any public funds. Instead, they point to a significant increase in sectoral revenue—growing from N6 billion in 2023 to over N70 billion by mid-2026—as evidence of their effective enforcement and operational success. The Commander urged lawmakers and the public to disregard attempts to undermine the ongoing efforts to sanitize the mining industry, pledging continued commitment to upholding the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act of 2007.
