Meta has quickly removed a recently launched feature that permitted users to employ its artificial intelligence software to generate manipulated images from Instagram profiles. Introduced this past Tuesday as part of the broader Meta AI chatbot suite, the tool known as Muse Image enabled users to select public Instagram accounts and instantly create AI-modified visuals based on that content.
The function faced immediate and significant criticism from the public. In response, Meta acknowledged the error, stating the tool did not meet expectations and has been deactivated. The company expressed that its goal was to offer a creative resource while allowing users to manage how their public posts were utilized. Meta emphasized that it has taken the negative feedback into account. Although the initial rollout was restricted to Instagram, the company had previously indicated plans to integrate similar AI capabilities into Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger, alongside ongoing development of an AI video generation tool.
