Scottish swimmer Keanna MacInnes overcame significant anxiety to secure a silver medal in the 100m butterfly at the Commonwealth Games. The 24-year-old, who entered the final with the third-fastest qualifying time, struggled with mounting pressure throughout the day. She credited her coach, Bradley Hay, for providing the necessary support to calm her nerves before the race.
MacInnes finished with a time of 57.33 seconds, improving on her previous semi-final performance by 0.35 seconds. During the race, she surged ahead of South Africa’s Erin Gallagher to take second place, while Australia’s Alex Perkins claimed the gold medal. Reflecting on the achievement, MacInnes expressed her gratitude to the local Glasgow crowd and her family for their support, admitting she had originally hoped for a bronze medal.
Fellow Scottish swimmers Ciara Schlosshan and Lucy Grieve performed well, securing fifth and sixth places respectively. Despite her initial fears of underperforming, MacInnes managed to channel her focus into an impressive podium finish in front of a home audience.
