Legendary ‘Cheers’ Actor George Wendt Dies Peacefully In Sleep At 76
Hollywood has lost another icon.
George Wendt, the cherished American actor famous for his role as Norm Peterson on the iconic NBC sitcom Cheers, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 76 years old.
His publicist, Melissa Nathan, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an official statement, saying:
“Beloved actor and comedian George Wendt, known for starring in the NBC hit comedy Cheers, has passed away. He will be missed forever.”
The statement also mentioned that Wendt’s family has asked for privacy during this difficult period.
George Wendt’s portrayal of the lovable, beer-loving Norm made him a household name worldwide. His character became an iconic figure on American TV in the 1980s and earned him six Emmy nominations.
Beyond Cheers, Wendt appeared in numerous movies and TV shows, sharing laughter and warmth with his signature charm and wit.
