Lagos authorities detain 56-year-old for illegal waste dumping in Ikorodu

Lagos environmental authorities arrested John Ehidreme, 56, for dumping trash into a drainage system in Ikorodu as part of a crackdown on illegal waste disposal.

Lagos State officials have intensified efforts to enforce environmental regulations by arresting 56-year-old John Ehidreme. The suspect was taken into custody for allegedly disposing of trash into a drainage canal located at 18 Oluoga, Ikorodu.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday through social media. He emphasized that dumping waste in such areas is a direct breach of state laws and contributes to flooding and health hazards by blocking critical drainage systems.

The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce carried out the arrest at the suspect’s residence. This action occurs shortly after another enforcement case in Pedro, Shomolu, where a resident named Ms. McCarthy was detained for tasking her child with dumping refuse into a closed drain.

Commissioner Wahab condemned these actions, stressing that parents should encourage responsible behavior rather than environmental abuse. He called on all Lagos residents to follow official waste disposal procedures to protect public health and mitigate the impact of seasonal floods.
