Kogi Gov Charges Corps Members to Lead Nation’s Progress
Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and security of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state.
The governor made the pledge during an unannounced visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Asaya, Ijumu Local Government Area on Wednesday. The stopover followed his earlier engagements, which included commissioning a new Divisional Police Headquarters in Ekinrin-Adde and paying a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba Rabiu Sule, the Ologidi of Ogidi.
Addressing corps members at the camp, Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of the NYSC scheme in fostering national unity and development. “I urge you to uphold the ideals of the NYSC by promoting unity, discipline and hard work throughout your service year,” the governor stated.
In a move to boost morale, Governor Ododo made a cash donation to support the welfare of corps members currently undergoing their three-week orientation program. While the exact amount was not disclosed, the gesture was warmly received by the NYSC community.
Mr. Femi Osungbohun, the Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, expressed gratitude for the governor’s visit and support. “This timely gesture demonstrates the administration’s genuine interest in the wellbeing of Nigerian youths,” Osungbohun remarked.
The coordinator assured that corps members would continue to serve diligently in their various places of primary assignment and contribute meaningfully to host communities across the state.
This visit underscores the Kogi State government’s ongoing efforts to create an enabling environment for youth development and national service. It comes as part of Governor Ododo’s broader initiatives to engage with critical sectors and institutions within the state.
