African Democratic Congress official Kenneth Okonkwo has claimed that the Abia State government’s decision to charge N200 million for presidential and N150 million for governorship campaign billboards is a calculated move by the All Progressives Congress. Okonkwo shared these views during a recent appearance on the Channels Television program Sunrise Daily.
He criticized Governor Alex Otti, suggesting the governor is acting as a tool for the ruling party to hinder other political groups. Okonkwo argued that such excessive costs make it financially impossible for the opposition to conduct effective campaigns. He suggested that if such fees were applied across all 36 states and the FCT, the democratic process would be severely undermined. The Abia State Structure for Signage and Advertising Agency recently established these significant charges for the 2027 election cycle.
