Former Niger State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Jonathan Vatsa, has asserted that pressure, threats, and intimidation will not deter his firm opposition to the Muslim-Muslim political ticket. Vatsa, a prominent member of the APC, expressed strong approval of Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for his plan to select a Christian running mate for the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial race. He noted that selecting a candidate from Southern Kaduna signals political fairness and religious inclusivity.
During a press briefing in Minna, Vatsa argued that Governor Sani has set himself apart from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, by prioritizing a balanced ticket. He believes this move will foster peace and ensure Christian communities feel represented in the government. Vatsa urged the Christian population in Kaduna to support the governor, praising this inclusive leadership style over those who only engage with the community for optics.
Conversely, Vatsa reaffirmed his criticism of the same-faith tickets utilized by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, labeling such arrangements as insensitive. As a founding member of the APC, he declared that he feels a moral duty to speak against marginalization. He dismissed concerns regarding potential backlash, stating that his commitment to fairness remains unchanged despite any efforts to silence him.
