On Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission held a trial accreditation session to prepare for the upcoming August 15 governorship election in Osun State. Prof. Joash Amupitan, leading the INEC oversight, observed the proceedings and voiced approval regarding the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System.
After inspecting four polling stations, Amupitan noted the technology is operating as expected. The primary goal of this rehearsal was to verify the stability of the accreditation equipment before the actual voting process begins. While there was a minor initial hiccup involving the system failing to read older voter cards, the commission quickly addressed the glitch.
Amupitan confirmed that both legacy and current voter cards are now being accepted by the machines. The INEC team verified the correction of this technical error. The chairman’s site visits included polling locations in Obokun, Egbedore, and Osogbo local government areas to ensure the devices were functioning correctly in the field.
