Chief Ikeje Asogwa, representing the All Progressives Congress, has secured victory in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election held on June 20, 2026. Official results confirm that Asogwa received 162,360 votes, significantly ahead of Chief Nestor Ezeme from the Peoples Democratic Party, who garnered 9,299 votes.
This electoral exercise was organized to fill the vacancy left by the late Senator Okey Ezea, who passed away on November 18, 2025, at the age of 62. Professor Christian Ezeibe, the Returning Officer and Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, officially declared the results on Sunday. He confirmed that 184,094 voters were accredited from a total pool of 727,340 registered voters in the zone.
Other candidates in the race included OssElias Okwudiri Ossai of the NDC with 3,129 votes, Chika Idoko Emmanuel of the ADC with 1,676 votes, Kingsley Aneke of the Boot Party with 1,607 votes, Ejike Simon Eze of the Labour Party with 1,027 votes, and Charles Ugochukwu of the PRP with 667 votes. Following his win, Asogwa expressed gratitude to the voters across the six local government areas and pledged to provide effective representation for the district.
