How We Rescued Kidnapped Benue Links Bus Passengers, Arrested Suspect – Police

The Benue State Police Command has disclosed details of the successful rescue of 11 passengers who were kidnapped from a Benue Links Hummer Bus on June 22, 2025. One suspect connected to the abduction has also been arrested.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the rescue operation was conducted through the joint efforts of the Inspector-General of Police Special Intervention Squad (IGP-SIS), the Command’s Tactical and Patrol Teams, the Military, and other security agencies.

Acting on credible intelligence, the rescue team traced the kidnappers’ movements through a bush path near Ondo Village in Ugbokolo, Okpokwu Local Government Area. After hours of intensive search, 11 victims were successfully rescued, and one suspect was arrested at the scene.

“This positive development follows a sustained and intelligence-driven operation. The victims are currently receiving medical attention and psychological support,” the statement read.

The Command further noted that this development follows the earlier rescue of two victims from the same abduction case last week, who have since been reunited with their families.

Commending the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, Commissioner of Police, CP Ifeanyi Emenari, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring all remaining suspects are captured and brought to justice.

He also thanked the families of the victims for their patience and cooperation throughout the rescue efforts and encouraged the public to continue providing credible information to assist the police in maintaining security across the state.
