Scotland has selected five-time Commonwealth bowls champion Alex Marshall and double judo gold medalist Sarah Adlington to carry their flag at the opening ceremony in Glasgow. Marshall stands as Scotland’s most decorated Commonwealth competitor, while Adlington aims to secure a third gold medal in judo.
Representing England, swimmer Luke Greenbank and four-time bowls medalist Sian Honnor will lead their delegation. Wales has chosen boxer Rosie Eccles and bowls competitor Daniel Salmon for the honors, with Northern Ireland’s representatives scheduled for announcement on Thursday.
Athletes expressed significant pride in their selections, with many noting the emotional weight of leading their respective teams. The ceremony will take place at the Hydro arena, where each of the 74 participating nations will carry a unique baton. England’s custom-designed baton features scenes crafted by artist Bonnie Steward using recycled materials, including a model of the Ribblehead viaduct constructed from a hair comb.
