Armed attackers stormed the residence of Hon. Nura Umar Abdullahi, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, and kidnapped him. The violent raid resulted in the deaths of two police officers and two local vigilantes who tried to stop the abduction.
Reports from family members indicate that the attackers initially took the chairman, along with his mother, wife, and two children. While the family members were eventually released, the gunmen fled with the chairman, an employee from the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau, and a local POS operator. The chairman’s wife noted that the kidnappers claimed their sole objective was to abduct the council leader.
During their escape, the suspects exchanged gunfire with security forces and vigilante groups. This confrontation left multiple bystanders injured, including Bello Umar Abdullahi, a retired finance ministry treasurer and the chairman’s brother. Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, spokesperson for the Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, confirmed that Nigerian Army soldiers engaged the captors in a battle and successfully secured the release of the chairman’s family members.
