Nasir Idris, the Governor of Kebbi State, has authorized the formation of two extra districts within Argungu Local Government Area. This initiative aims to bolster the efficiency of traditional institutions and local governance. Garba Umar Dutsinmari, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, announced the development during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi.
The move stems from a formal proposal by the Argungu Local Government Council to expand the number of districts. Consequently, the newly established Yamman District, based in Gungu, will be led by Alhaji Abubakar Mohammad Mera. Additionally, the Gwagwange District has been upgraded, with Darikwai Muhammadu Ibrahim appointed as its head.
Dutsinmari clarified that these changes adhere to the 2008 Kebbi State Local Government Law, specifically Section 10 (A) and (B), which grants the authority to create and improve local administrative boundaries. The commissioner advised the new leaders to serve with integrity and diligence, emphasizing that their selection resulted from their proven capabilities. He also pledged the full cooperation of the state government to assist them in their official roles.
