The Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital (FUTATH) in Akure has provided clarity regarding its current salary structure. The hospital transitioned from state ownership to federal control, resulting in a dual-payroll system involving both the Ondo State Government and the Federal Government.
Tope Fayehun, the institution’s public relations head, clarified that the Ondo State Government continues to compensate the permanent staff inherited from the hospital’s previous iteration. Conversely, the Federal Government is responsible for the wages of non-regular personnel hired to keep medical operations functional during this transition phase.
Fayehun addressed recent confusion surrounding remarks made by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olusegun Ojo. He emphasized that these statements were misunderstood and were not meant to imply that federal authorities had assumed total responsibility for the entire workforce’s compensation.
This payment model adheres to the Memorandum of Understanding established between state and federal officials during the transition. The hospital maintains that both governments are fulfilling their defined roles to ensure medical services remain available. The administration requested that the public ignore incorrect reports and remain focused on the institution’s ongoing development as a federal tertiary provider.
