Renowned Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele recently revealed the diverse odd jobs she performed to fund her education at the University of Lagos. During an interview with Bella Naija, the actress described how she took up nail technician work after learning the trade by watching others in Yaba. She recalled a difficult moment when a client slapped her due to poor workmanship on a set of nails.
Beyond grooming services, Akindele managed several other revenue streams. She sold cakes, including to renowned makeup artist Bimpe Onakoya, and worked in costume design for prominent figures like Bukky Wright and Iyabo Ojo. Her resourcefulness extended to the film industry, where she served as a location manager, brokering deals between production crews and property owners to earn a commission.
Akindele also navigated campus life by selling bed space to cover her expenses. Reflecting on these formative years, the producer noted that these challenging experiences shaped her disciplined approach to her current career, stating that life forced her to become a resilient entrepreneur.
