Four Dead in Katsina Charity Distribution Stampede

A tragic stampede at Kofar Guga Quarters in Katsina State has claimed at least four lives.

The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on February 26, 2026, as a massive crowd assembled at the home of local philanthropist Alhaji Dahiru Usman Sarki to receive traditional Ramadan alms.

According to Sadiq Abubakar Aliyu, spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, the distribution turned chaotic, prompting a distress call to the Central Police Station.

Although security forces arrived quickly to manage the crowd and initiate rescues, four individuals succumbed to their injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Police Commissioner Bello Shehu has offered his sympathies to the grieving families and expressed hopes for the quick recovery of those still hospitalized.

The event highlights the ongoing safety challenges associated with large-scale, unregulated aid distributions during the holy month.
