In an effort to advance President Bola Tinubu’s digital economy goals, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has entered into a 15-year lease agreement with the Enugu State Government for its Digital Industrial Park and Learning Centre. The state plans to rebrand these facilities as the Enugu Talent City and Artificial Intelligence Institute, supporting the administration of Governor Peter Mbah.
Dr. Aminu Maida, the CEO of the NCC, stated that the partnership supports the national objective of building a $1 trillion economy. He praised Governor Mbah’s focus on education and infrastructure, noting that the facilities are intended to serve as hubs for startups, research, and technical skill development. Maida highlighted that while physical infrastructure is vital, the success of these sites depends on the innovation and talent fostered within them.
During the signing ceremony, Governor Mbah commended the federal government for prioritizing digital expansion. He emphasized the importance of Artificial Intelligence, projecting its massive contribution to the global economy by 2030. The Governor expressed a desire to keep local talent within the country while allowing them to provide services internationally. Plans are already underway to collaborate with international partners to turn the facility into a premier African certification center for AI.
Arinze Chilo-Ofia, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Economy and MSMEs, expressed gratitude to the NCC for the trust placed in Enugu State to effectively manage and utilize these assets for regional development.
