England Training Hit by Trio’s Absence Before Norway Quarter-Final

Declan Rice, Marc Guéhi, and Reece James missed England’s latest training session, casting doubt on their availability for the upcoming World Cup quarter-final against Norway.

Ahead of Saturday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final versus Norway, three England squad members skipped Wednesday’s practice session. Midfielder Declan Rice, defender Marc Guéhi, and full-back Reece James conducted individual fitness routines at Swope Soccer Village instead of joining the main group. Rice is currently managing a persistent hamstring problem, while Guéhi is dealing with muscle fatigue; both are still anticipated to feature in the Miami showdown. James remains a significant uncertainty as he continues his recovery from a separate hamstring injury that kept him out of the previous three fixtures.

With Jarell Quansah serving a suspension following his red card against Mexico, Djed Spence is the primary candidate to fill the right-back role should James fail his fitness test. Jordan Henderson, who underwent surgery for a broken arm, is back at the team hotel in Kansas City but did not train. Manager Thomas Tuchel intends to keep the veteran with the squad for his leadership qualities, even though his tournament is over.

The squad recently regrouped following a two-day break after their win over Mexico. England plans one more session on Thursday before heading to Miami on Friday to finalize preparations for the match against Norway.
