Reece James did not participate in England’s final training session ahead of the World Cup round-of-16 game against Mexico. The 26-year-old Chelsea right-back has been sidelined for the team’s previous two outings after sustaining a hamstring injury during a 0-0 result against Ghana and has yet to resume full training.
Conversely, the squad received a boost as Jarell Quansah is fully prepared to play in Monday’s fixture. Quansah, capable of operating as both a central defender and a full-back, had been recovering from a hamstring issue picked up during the match against Panama. His availability provides manager Thomas Tuchel with defensive relief, especially given the recent rotation at right-back where Djed Spence started against DR Congo before Declan Rice finished the game in that role.
