The Ekiti State Police Command recently dismantled a criminal operation involving the theft of motorcycles. On Saturday, July 18, 2026, members of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested one theft suspect and two individuals accused of receiving stolen goods. The operation also resulted in the recovery of seven stolen motorcycles.
Acting on intelligence regarding a stolen red Bajaj motorcycle taken near Olaoluwa Muslim Grammar School, officers intercepted the suspect, 38-year-old Mustapha Lekan, along Ilawe Road in Ado-Ekiti following a pursuit. Upon questioning, Lekan admitted to multiple thefts in the area. Subsequent inquiries led authorities to Ilogbo-Ekiti and Ido-Ekiti, where they detained Adebiyi Blessing and Ogunbayo Adebiyi as suspected receivers of the stolen property. Investigators recovered six additional bikes during these arrests.
Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Michael praised the unit for their effective field work. He stated that the police are working to return the recovered vehicles to their owners and are actively searching for other suspects connected to this network. The Commissioner noted that the individuals in custody will face legal proceedings once the investigation concludes.
