A commercial Sharon bus crash in Pankshin, Plateau State, left at least eight individuals injured on Wednesday. The vehicle, which was commuting from Namu to Jos, veered out of control around 3 p.m. due to a reported mechanical issue.
Local resident Rotkang Amos reported that one woman suffered significant injuries and was transported to the General Hospital in Pankshin, while others escaped with less severe harm. It is believed that more than eight people were aboard during the incident.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident, with Route Commander Peter Longsan noting that early reports point to brake failure as the primary cause. Fortunately, no fatalities occurred. Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers assisted in moving the injured to medical facilities, including the Cottage Hospital in Chip, prior to the arrival of official responders.
The exact number of those hurt remains unverified because victims were moved quickly. The FRSC has reminded drivers to conduct consistent maintenance checks on their braking systems to prevent similar road hazards.
