Steven Pressley has officially extended his tenure as the head coach of Dundee. While he views the decision as positive for his career and personal life, he has cautioned supporters that the team faces a period of hardship as they look to rebuild following the departure of several significant players.
The 52-year-old took charge in June 2025 and led the squad to an eighth-place finish in the Scottish Premiership last season. Pressley admitted that finalizing the deal was a priority, particularly because it allows his wife to join him in Scotland, ending a year of isolation that he noted was taxing even for a manager.
Regarding the team’s prospects, Pressley was candid about the challenges ahead. With departures including Luke Graham, Billy Koumetio, and Jon McCracken, as well as the expiration of several loan agreements, the squad is in a state of transition. The manager emphasized that replacing such influential figures is difficult and will require patience from the fans as new signings adjust.
Pressley pointed to Motherwell as a successful model for growth, aiming to mirror their ability to develop internal talent and achieve European qualification. Despite the looming reconstruction phase, he is eager for the season’s opening match against defending champions Celtic on Monday, describing the trip as a test he is prepared to tackle.
