D’Tigers Edge Out Tunisia 84-81 in FIBA World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria’s basketball team opened their FIBA World Cup qualifying campaign with a narrow win over Tunisia under new coach David Fizdale.

Nigeria’s national men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, secured a narrow 84-81 victory against Tunisia on Thursday. This Group C clash took place in Luanda, Angola, as part of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers.

This win served as a successful debut for the team’s new head coach, David Fizdale, in his first official match. Nigeria took an early lead by finishing the first quarter 23-21, though Tunisia fought back to win the second quarter 23-20, resulting in a tie at the break.

The second half saw Nigeria regain the lead, winning the third quarter 21-19 and edging the final period 20-18 to confirm the win. This result is a major step forward for their qualification campaign for the 2027 tournament in Qatar.

The team is scheduled to play Guinea this Friday and Rwanda on Sunday to complete this set of qualifying games.
