Donald Duke, the presidential standard-bearer for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has cautioned that Nigeria faces imminent catastrophe if it fails to alter its political and economic path within the next four years. During a recent interview with ARISE NEWS, the former governor of Cross River State explained that the nation’s deteriorating condition pushed him to abandon the sidelines and re-enter active politics.
Duke identified a lack of economic expansion, systemic governance failures, and persistent insecurity—including banditry and terrorism—as clear evidence of leadership inadequacy. He argued that the past two decades have been dominated by political maneuvering rather than effective administration. To illustrate this point, he cited a recent scandal involving an unauthorized office within the Federal Secretariat as proof of deep-seated institutional decay.
Addressing the state of the national economy, Duke criticized the current high interest rates, which he claimed stifle growth and prevent sustainable development. Looking ahead to the 2027 election cycle, he emphasized the necessity of a unified opposition. He urged rival parties to set aside personal ambitions, warning that a fractured front will fail to provide the meaningful change the country desperately needs.
