The Quick Response Squad of the Delta State Police Command successfully disrupted a suspected cult initiation rite occurring in a wooded area near Orogun Community, located in the Ughelli North Local Government Area. During the intelligence-driven raid, officers seized a pump-action rifle, a modified double-barrel firearm, various live and spent cartridges, seven vehicles, six mobile devices, and assorted cult-related items.
SP Bright Edafe, the command spokesperson, stated that the operation took place early Sunday, July 19, 2026. Acting on tips regarding the Black Axe Confraternity, authorities arrived at the forest to find the group in action. Although the suspects initiated gunfire against the police, they were overwhelmed by the officers’ tactical response and eventually escaped into the nearby bush toward the Abbi–Abraka road.
All confiscated evidence is currently held by the police as the investigation continues to locate the escaped individuals. Commissioner of Police Yemi John Oyeniyi praised the team for their effective work, underscoring the department’s dedication to eradicating cult activity through intelligence-based strategies. He further encouraged citizens to maintain cooperation by reporting suspicious criminal behavior.
