Delta State Magistrate Court Grants Bail to Suspected Imposter Lawyer

A 30-year-old man accused of posing as a lawyer has been granted N200,000 bail by a Delta State Magistrate Court.

A Magistrate Court located in Effurun, within the Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, has released 30-year-old Collins Ehibor on bail. Ehibor is currently facing allegations of practicing law without proper authorization.

Chief Magistrate Gregory Epete set the bail at N200,000, requiring the defendant to provide two sureties. Ehibor entered a plea of not guilty regarding the charges against him. The legal proceedings are scheduled to resume on July 14, 2026.

Ehibor was initially detained and brought before the court on July 6, 2026, under case number ME/89C/2026. He faces two primary counts: impersonation, which violates Section 484 of the Criminal Code, and obtaining property through false pretenses, which falls under Section 419 of the Criminal Code. The courtroom saw significant attendance, including representatives from the Effurun branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.
