Christian Eriksen remains committed to football career after recent health scare

Christian Eriksen will continue his rehabilitation in Denmark following a health scare during an international match, with no current plans to retire from professional football.

VfL Wolfsburg has announced that Christian Eriksen will undergo the next stage of his recovery in Denmark following a collapse during an international match against Ukraine last month. The 34-year-old midfielder experienced a health emergency on the pitch, causing alarm among those in the stadium.

Eriksen, who previously survived a cardiac arrest during Euro 2021, relies on an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) to monitor his heart rhythm. Sources indicate that this device functioned correctly during the recent event, providing the necessary shock to stabilize him. Despite the gravity of the situation, there is no sign that Eriksen plans to leave professional football.

Wolfsburg confirmed his absence from pre-season training, stating he will follow a personalized recovery plan in his home country. Managing director Dieter Hecking coordinated the decision to allow the player to remain in Denmark while under the guidance of his medical team. The club maintains regular communication with Eriksen and his doctors, though they have not yet projected a return date.
